🏠 Radon in Florida: What You Need to Know
Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the ground. You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it — but breathing high levels over time can increase your risk of lung cancer.
Even though Florida isn’t a top-risk state, radon has been found in homes across all parts of Florida, including newer homes and homes without basements.
⚠️ Why Radon Matters in Florida
Radon can enter homes through cracks and gaps in the foundation.
It’s the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S.
You won’t know it’s there unless the home is tested.
🗺️ Florida Radon Risk Map (EPA)
The EPA classifies Florida counties into three zones based on radon potential:
🔴 Zone 1 – Highest, 🟠 Zone 2 – Moderate, 🟡 Zone 3 – Lowest
Most of Florida is in Zone 2 or 3, but any home can have high levels — no matter the zone.

✅ What You Can Do
If you're buying, selling, or living in a Florida home, ask about professional radon testing. It’s a simple step that helps protect your health and peace of mind.
